I don’t know about you but personally I hate shopping for birthday gifts. I am the world’s worst gift giver. I never know what to get anyone. I have tried for years to figure out a better method for gift giving. Over the years I have given horrible gifts such as a ski helmet to someone that has never skied or ever will ski. The person I was buying the gift for was actually a motorcycle enthusiast.

I thought I was buying the black helmet that I had overheard him say he wanted for his birthday. I did not know at the time that he was referring to a motorcycle helmet. After many failed attempts at buying the perfect birthday gift I decided to go online and look for suggestions on gift giving.

Since doing research online about gift giving I have actually gotten a little better at it. The first thing I do before choosing a gift is think about the person I am shopping for. It is important to consider the things that they like. I was on the right track with the helmet I just did not take the time to figure out what type of helmet. If I had paid attention to the fact that he enjoyed motorcycles I would have known that my gift was not a good idea.

You should also take your budget into consideration. There is no sense in going shopping until you know how much money you are planning to spend. You will be in the stores all day if you do not first plan a budget. Shopping for a woman can be a little more difficult. Most women love lotions, oils, and candles. You may want to find out if she has a favorite scent before buying one of these.

Personalized gifts are a great idea, there are so many things that you can have personalized that you really have a large selection to choose from. You can personalize anything from a hand bag to the back of a leather watch. A personalized gift will let the person know that you put some thought into the gift.

You will also want to consider the person’s personality before buying for them. They may be quirky, loud, girlie, elegant, or shy. These things make a difference in the type of gift you will want to buy.

Just take a little time to figure out what the person’s interest are and you will come up with a great idea for a gift. You should not simply go shopping hoping to find a gift because you will probably just buy something that you like. Remember that even though you like it does not necessarily mean that they will like it too.
