When it comes to confidence in children, there are several things you can do in order to enhance and promote it. Just as things you do can impact their self-esteem negatively, you can instead learn what can be done to influence their self-esteem in a positive light. While there are many tips and suggestions, you can start with discouraging their negative thoughts, praising your child, by teaching social intelligence, and by instilling proper nutrition and exercise into your child’s life.
Get Rid of Those Negative Thoughts
Just like adults, children will feel down about themselves time and again when frustrated about something, and will then make an internal comment that is negative towards themselves. People commonly make comments about themselves that can ruin self esteem. The difference about adults and children when this happens is that children will typically voice these sorts of statements. They may call themselves stupid and so on, but when they do and you hear them, let them know that it most certainly NOT true! Depending on their age, do a bit further explaining by letting them know that everyone has good and bad days, but that doesn’t mean they are a failure.
Don’t Be Afraid to praise
You don’t always need to wait for the negative to correct your child when trying to enhance confidence in kids. Praising them will let your child know you are proud of them, appreciate them, and so on. Recognizing your childs efforts and congratulating them goes a long way. Of course, every now and then they will make mistakes that need to be corrected however a reward speaks just as loud. Helping your childs self image is as easy as a simple compliment.
Get Them Involved Socially
Parents should not only encourage their children verbally, but they should encourage them to have social lives. Childrens development greatly depends on their social and real relationships. Without them they may feel like they don’t belong, feel different, become depressed, have anxiety, and have low levels of self-esteem. Encouraging involvement in sports is a great way to help your children create healthy social relationships.
Exercise and Nutrition
Believe it or not, what a child eats and the types of activities they are involved in will influence child success, and overall, how they feel about themselves. Without living a healthy lifestyle various emotional disorders can come about. Be sure your child has plenty of exercise and is eating nutritious foods. An active lifestyle at a young age will benefit a child throughout their lifetime.

I’ve spent years learning and growing and trying to figure out just exactly what the difference is between achievers: i.e. those that ‘do’, and those that ‘don’t’.
Have you observed that successful people have patterns? Often these are the key to their success or failure.
And I know that success is no accident.
There are certain steps and pathways to excellence which has to be termed the science of achievement. I will be sharing these steps with you starting with the first one ‘Teach Them To Know What They Want In Life’ below.
Even a seemingly ‘perfect’ background doesn’t guarantee that children achieve… they may have been given the money, access to mentors and the many other so called advantages, but simply lacked the motivation to make it work for them.
Although we are not born with the qualities to succeed, the great news is they can be learned.
Qualities like:-
And more.
Think of academic education as the ‘food’ and think of personal development as the ‘knife and fork’; without being able to use a knife and fork well, we wouldn’t be able to get the academic results in life.
So investing in your kids self improvement specifically for your child’s personal development will arm them with the skills required to succeed both at school and in life and lead to a more successful and fulfilling journey. For example if your child is intelligent but lacks the focus to follow through, it’s obviously going to let them down.
A fundamental skill is to help your child to learn to deal with set backs and overcome obstacles as this is what will give them psychological strength—it’s the very thing that forms character.
Teach Them To Know What They Want In Life
If you are already wondering where to start, you must begin by knowing what it is that you are after; which direction you are going in.
To help you and your child to identify the personal goals and increase your childs self esteem goals to aim for, focus on asking this: ‘What is important to you?’, ‘What do you want to do?’, ‘What do you want to achieve?’? Because to be successful you must learn to know where it is you want to go in life!
For example, imagine going on a holiday without knowing where you are going. If you have your bags packed ready for some sun but end up in Iceland, you wouldn’t be too happy. So be aware that if you don’t know where you are going you could end up somewhere you don’t want to be!
Ask your child to write their goals down in a way that inspires them, maybe using pictures or photos. And remember goals are simply dreams written down.
Here’s to the Success of our Children
Mail this postIn establishing with your child what exactly a ‘plan’ is, you might like to explain that a plan is like a set of blue prints, which allow you to see what you need to do in order to get where you want to be – a bit like like a three point plan to brushing your teeth. Simple!
But imagine you want make a plan to achieve something more complex, like say, building a castle. Before a single stone is laid, you need to think carefully about your plans. How big will the castle be? How many towers? Will there be a dungeon? You need to think through the materials you need, before you can make a proper start.
The process of creating and then following blue prints ensures that you will have a strong castle that has been built how it was envisaged. But you can’t hope to achieve your goal if you DO NOT PLAN.
So, encourage your child to think about their destination, the point they want to get to, and work back from there, to where they are now. Because working backwards allows them to foresee obstacles that may need to be overcome.
You’ll have no doubt noticed in your childrens self esteem, that often children don’t start things because they feel it’s too big, too difficult, too hard, takes too long… or the perennial ‘but I’m too tired’ (aka ‘Can’t be bothered’)!
We want your child to become a ‘Do’ kind of person, so instead of using too and putting obstacles in the way of their achievement, things actually become mentally ‘do-able’.
There’s a positive benefit to thinking clearly about what they need to do to in order to achieve their goals, in that it creates a clear set of bite sized chunks which make the goal seem that much closer and more within their grasp.
I can confidently say, that by putting this into practice, you WILL give your child great confidence and power in believing – for themselves – that they CAN achieve things that at first might have appeared either daunting or totally beyond them.
What parent doesn’t wish for that liberating character trait in their children?
Have them learn the phrase ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail’ and get planning goals with them!
What’s truly exciting about these techniques is that they will help to give your child greater power in their lives and help them to discover the amazing potential that lies within them, which will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
